Description: Installing ESM ( Voter ) to operate on a stand-alone machine.

This article describes how to install the ESM system ( Voter ) to operate on a stand-alone machine.

First, Insert the ESM Install CD into the clients machine. The install will automatically launch. Select all of the proper options including Installation location and network drive to be mapped ( "V:" ). Once you get to the installation type screen, select the options for ESM Workstation. Then select the options button for Election Systems Manager 2.0. Make sure that the "Sample Data" option is selected.

Once this has been done, select "OK" until you get back to the Installation Type screen. Click "Next".

Once the installation has been completed, you need to edit the c:\autoexec.bat file to map the "V" drive to the local machine.

Once you have opened the file, you will see a line that has the "subst" command in it. It is currently commented out and that is what needs to change ( remove the "REM " ). Alter the line to look like the line below:

subst v: c:\

Once you have done that, reboot the machine.

If the machine is a Windows2000 Professional box, you might need to execute the autoexec.bat file in order to successfully be able to access the "V" drive.

To do this, browse to the file, and double click it.

Run voter and have a great day!
